Sony launches Xperia XZ Premium

Samsung Galaxy S7 vs S7 Edge

Sony has launched the Xperia XZ Premium today (February 27) in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress.

As based on the past rumors, we are assuming that the first device in the images above is the Xperia XZ.The second one with rotation of camera at 90 degree is the Xperia XZ Premium.

It is, unsurprisingly, more interested in photography. The 5.2 inch XA1 will go on sale May 1 for $300 and the 6-inch Xperia XA1 Ultra is promised later this year.

Most folks will have trouble discerning between 1080p and 2K resolution phone screens, so it's likely that things aren't going to be very different with a 4K display. It packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage on this device.

Sony Xperia Ear "Open-Style CONCEPT" Along with the Xperia Touch projector, Sony also unveiled its new concept "open-ear" headphones which can basically enable one to listen to music and receive notifications simultaneously while being able to listen the ambient sound.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium on the other hand, has a 23-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and phase detection autofocus, coupled with a 5.1-megapixel front facing camera with an aperture of f/2.4.

Now, in another separate leak, notable tipster Evan Blass has stumbled upon a series of Sony Xperia X 2017 phones and among them is the already-leaked Xperia XZ Premium. This book could have been written two years ago. The Xperia XZ Premium is backed by a 2,900mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and this is expected to be a downside since the phone is expected to power up a flagship Snapdragon 835 along with a 4K display. The result is a 19-megapixel rear camera that can capture the action at 960 frames per minute to creates a slow-mo capture that out-slows the competition for some truly "wow" moments.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is an improvement over the Xperia XZ in nearly all the ways that matter, on paper, at least.

The problem for Sony, like so many other Android manufacturers, is the fact that Samsung's absolutely crushing it this year. Then again, Sony's phones are known for looking great when it comes to specs sheets, but lagging behind in reality. At the back, the Xperia XZs comes with the same 19MP Sony Exmor RS camera as the Xperia XZ Premium, sporting the same features. Sony is aiming to please both high-end Alpha users and casual CyberShot faithfuls with a new generation system called Motion Eye.

The Xperia XZs will be available in the US unlocked at Best Buy and Amazon for $699.99 starting on April 5. It makes sense, according to Sony, as there is HDR content now available and the company has partnered with Amazon for the 4K HDR content to be played on this device. But what's the need for 4K resolution on a 5.5-inch screen? Both are mid-range mobiles, making use of an octa-core Mediatek chipset rather than more powerful Snapdragon processors.

Finally, a larger version of the XA 1, affixed with Ultra, will debut in late spring. Beyond just being visually striking, a smaller bezels means more screen in physical packages that aren't necessarily bigger than before.
