Injury scare for Durant as Warriors fall to Wizards
Mar 03 2017 by Kelly Saunders
It was a game that, despite 38 turnovers and uneven play on both sides, turned into a thrilling competition that saw the Wizards lose a 19-point lead but outlast Golden State during a furious back-and-forth final quarter.
They held Chicago scoreless for a period of almost four-and-a-half minutes, over the course of which they'd go on a 6-0 run to retake an 85-84 lead on David West's lay-in with 5:43 remaining in the game.
The Warriors later confirmed Durant had suffered a hyperextended left knee and that an MRI scan had been scheduled.
Last July, the four-time scoring champion made the stunning decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the already-lethal Warriors, creating an National Basketball Association powerhouse that he hopes will help him land an elusive National Basketball Association title. But they also had reason to be relieved on Thursday.
His teammates, including outspoken forward Draymond Green, took to social media to express their sympathy for Durant. They called up Matt and now, he's back on the team! The Splash Brothers are a combined 11-of-63 from three-point land in their last three contests. The group has hosted charity flag football games in LA, and in the first four years of the foundation, had raised $225,000, according to the Los Angeles Times. That's because they needed a forward with Durant hurt.
With that said, the Warriors were in this one until the very end, warts and all. He found himself open more often than he usually does, he just didn't hit anything, this wild leaner excepted.
"It certainly wasn't our 15-point explosive offensive fourth quarter". The Warriors basically know what they have in James Michael McAdoo at this point, but he's a capable injury replacement, blocking three shots per 100 possessions and shooting over 58 percent in limited opportunity.
Without Durant, the Warriors will have a much tougher time holding off the Spurs for the number one seed in the West. "On a free throw for an offensive board, letting guys get into the paint, we've had some slippage the last few games and some things we've got to clean up". Golden State learned that it would be without Durant due to an MCL sprain and bone bruise for at least four weeks after the 112-108 road loss to Washington. If these two struggle this mightily, the Warriors are bound to struggle along with them.
