Will Wake Forest upset Kansas State? March Madness Predictions 3/14/17
Mar 15 2017 by Bridget Leonard
Wake Forest University students will gather in the Sutton Center tonight as the men's basketball team faces Kansas State in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament. The victor will be seeded No. 11 in the South Regional and face No. 6-seed Cincinnati on Friday in Sacramento.
Wake Forest (19-14) couldn't keep up during its first NCAA Tournament game in seven years.
Kansas State is 22-10, and one of six Big 12 teams to make the 64-team women's field.
Thursday and Friday are two of the best sports days of the year, but first comes the NCAA Tournament's appetizer: the First Four in Dayton.
"I think in the second half we did a better job of executing", Iwundu said. That includes three combined losses to Duke and North Carolina by a total of 13 points.
Lewis, who is the only player in program history to be named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team, earned her third straight league defensive honor by anchoring one of the Big 12's top defenses this season. According to KenPom.com, which ranks teams by a more advanced metrics than the NCAA selection committee seems to use (KenPom includes margin of victory, for example), Wake Forest is actually the 30th-best team in the country, meaning it should really be around the 7-8-9-seed range, give or take. The Deacons are in a play-in game that will put the victor against No. 6 Cincinnati. At one point in the half, K-State led points in the paint 20-2.
San Antonio Basketball Was in Full Effect Last Night
At one point, the Spurs were down 59-31, a 28-point deficit. "I was a big Oscar fan being a kid and watching him", Popovich said. We've been treated to some all-time great basketball from these four players, but only one of them will be the 2016-2017 MVP.
It appeared that every time Wake got that close, that Kansas State's Kamau Stokes would hit a big three. In contrast, K-State is 1-3 SU in its last four games against the ACC. Senior forward D.J. Johnson made 8 of 9 shots on his way to 18 points. This could have been avoided if they had just beaten the Virginia Tech Hokies in the ACC Tournament. "We try bringing the best attitude and effort we can each day in order to be our best come March, and I feel that once again we did that".
"Junior is an inspiration to all of us", coach Jamion Christian said. Defensively, Wake Forest is yielding 77.9 points per game against the opposing teams.
Players to watch: USC has four players who average in double figures, but its one all-conference pick was Pac-12 most improved player Chimezie Metu, a 6-foot-11 sophomore who averages 14.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Bryant Crawford wasn't ideal, but the sophomore point guard finished with 20 points, 9 assists, and 4 rebounds, while Austin Arians scored 17. If any teams should be allowed to play, it is teams some thought should not be playing in the tourney at all.
