Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Jacobs, Roman Gonzalez vs Wisaksil Wangek

The victory early on March 19 in NY gave Golovkin the WBA middleweight title to go along with his WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight crowns.

To retain or win an IBF title, a fighter must not weigh more than ten pounds over the weight limit on a fight day weigh in.

BLH scored the fight 114-113 Golovkin (Wil Esco) and 115-112 Jacobs (myself). Jacobs is probably the best fight Golovkin could get right now at 160 pounds, and he's a serious puncher, so he has an outside chance if he can hurt Golovkin early.

"Gennady is very excited to defend all of his titles against Daniel Jacobs in this matchup of the two best middleweights in the world", said K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler. I think Golovkin will hunt him down and kill him, the same as he will anyone else in that division.

Jacobs is nicknamed "Miracle Man" after his career was nearly ended in 2011 because of osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. He would survive the round, but Golovkin came out strong to start the fifth, landing a hard right that kept Jacobs on the defensive. He's a very good fighter.

Although Jacobs was stopped in his lone defeat to Dmitry Pirog in July 2010 and dropped by Sergio Mora in the first round of their August 2015 bout, he is a confident fighter who likes to assert his dominance early. But in the end, I don't think Jacobs can stand up to the constant punishment and power. "He's not cancer", Jacobs told reporters before this week's final news conference ahead of their Madison Square Garden showdown. How either of them will win, and how this potentially explosive fight will unfold is examined by Steve Forbes, former two time world champion, who offered an expert analysis. Jacobs hasn't felt the power that Triple G can bring, and that will be the difference as the fight wages into the latter segment. "I'm reliving those moments, the same thought process, same feelings, questioning myself", Jacobs said, recalling his treatments, rehab and comeback after being sidelined 18 months. "I kind of agree with that, even though I think he's still a unsafe fighter and he's still a big threat".

A rematch was mentioned in his post-fight interview with HBO's Max Kellerman, although there's also the small matter of a super-fight with Canelo Alvarez to consider should the Mexican come through compatriot Julio Cesar Chavez Las Vegas on May 6.

"I know I'm ready, 100 percent".

In only his second fight outside Asia, Sor Rungvisai improved to 42-4-1 with 38 knockouts. Golovkin doesn't get the credit for being a skilled boxer that he should.

Other results on the card saw Carlos Cuadras squeak through David Carmona in a ten-rounder that could easily have gone the other way.
