Trump, Xi establish US-China Comprehensive Dialogue

In the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders, Xi is meeting with Trump at the USA president's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for a two-day summit that ends Friday.
However, Xi apparently got something out of dinner.
"Any use of force or preemptive strikes against North Korea will carry huge ramifications, which would probably lead to a drastically different outcome compared to Syria", Wang said.
But the military was concerned that if an attack resulted in chemical agents being dispersed, the US could be blamed for any sickness or death, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss secret military plans.
"I don't see any upside to it because the idea that we would use a nuclear weapon even against North Korea is highly unlikely".
For Xi, who is entering a twice-a-decade Communist Party congress in the fall, the meeting with Trump was more about stabilizing the critical U.S. It was "a political reality that we have to accept", White House spokesman Sean Spicer had said.
In a similar attack back in 2013, Fox News pundit and staunch Trump backer Sean Hannity wrote: "Glad our arrogant Pres is enjoying his taxpayer funded golf outing after announcing the USA should take military action against Syria".
China has for years condemned USA use of military force overseas.
Tillerson, who briefed reporters alongside Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross at the conclusion of the summit, also said Trump said China needs to make changes to its economy in order to "level the playing field for American workers, stressing repeatedly the need for reciprocal market access".
Both scenarios are part of an accelerated review of North Korea policy prepared in advance of Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week.
While Trump would not say what he wants China to do specifically, he suggested there was a link between "terrible" trade agreements the US has made with China and Pyongyang's provocations.
"I would hope that for the sake of the USA relationship with China, that they gave Beijing a fair heads up", says journalist and longime China-watcher Isaac Stone Fish, "and that [Chinese President] Xi Jinping didn't hear about it from an aide or read about it from CNN".
But on Friday Trump showed he is willing to try a new approach to China relations.
China is Alaska's leading trade partner, buying more than $1 billion in Alaska products in 2016.
"We have been treated unfairly and have made bad trade deals with China for many, many years", Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday as he flew to Palm Beach.
For a trip to the U.S.to meet the leader of the free world, greater coverage would seem to be warranted.
The most powerful message for the Chinese leader may have been Trump's decision to launch missile strikes at Syria, adding weight to Trump's threat to act unilaterally against North Korea's weapons program. Trump told reporters the strike was in response to a nerve gas attack by the Syrian regime against civilians on Tuesday. Until the chemical weapons attack, Trump mainly saw Syria as a hotbed for terrorists seeking to attack the U.S. He rarely spoke of the hundreds of thousands killed and the millions displaced during the six years of clashes between the Assad government, backed by Russian Federation and Iran, and opposition groups.
President Donald Trump's decision to punish Syria for a chemical weapons attack that killed more than 80 people, including children, marked a 180-degree departure from the "America First" philosophy that signaled a rejection of global engagements and from his September 2016 declaration that the United States "cannot be the policeman of the world".
The strike was a culmination of a rapid, three-day transformation for Trump, who has long opposed deeper US involvement in Syria's civil war.
