Nearing 100 days, Trump says his presidency is 'different'

'It's an Artificial Barrier:' President Trump Dismisses 100-Day Benchmark Amid Record-Low Approval Ratings

Here's President Trump speaking to reporters at the White House this afternoon.

President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest on his 69th day in office, and had to sign his first bill into law over a breakfast tray at the George Washington University hospital.

"We feel very good about what we've done as we head up to this first hundred days", he said. He now says the 100-day mark is "not very meaningful".

"Unlike his predecessor who abused executive authority to expand the size and scope of the federal government in an end run around Congress, President Trump is using his legal authority to restrain Washington bureaucrats", said White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The White House previously insisted that the must-pass spending bill include a down payment for the proposed wall along the U.S. -Mexico border.

Among those Democrats trying to build on their newfound party enthusiasm is former presidential candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who has been on a nationwide tour with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez that is part unity tour and part pep rally. "But yeah. Well, I'm mostly there on most items", Trump said. There's no rush. Ignore the critics. I said, "What?" He said, "You saved us $100 million".

Ruhle's comments were prompted by a discussion of the president's first 100 days in office, and Trump's repeated claims that he had inherited "a mess" from the previous administration. TRADE Trump's administration has adopted a "constructive" approach to NAFTA behind the scenes, despite headlines to the contrary, the head of the biggest US business lobby says in a speech in Mexico City.

Before becoming president: "Save Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security without cuts".

To be even fairer, Trump did manage to get his choice for a Supreme Court justice, Neil Gorsuch, though Senate confirmation (even though rules had to be bent and broken to do so), and he has pleased conservatives by beginning to dismantle several of Barack Obama's environmental and business regulations.

When asked about Trump's numerous promises for his first 100 days that have not been met, the officials recast them as ongoing "top-line priorities". The last time an opinion poll might have had bearing on a sitting president is when LBJ decided half a century ago - in the face of sour polls showing him losing against mounting competition for the 1968 Democratic nomination - that he would neither seek, nor accept, the nomination.

President Donald Trump has rattled Washington and been chastened by its institutions for nearly 100 days.

TRUMP: OK. The one thing I've learned to do that I never thought I had the ability to do. He acted quickly and decisively, and in so doing restored our credibility on the world stage that Obama had squandered.

He underscored the message by dropping the MOAB (a.k.a. "Mother of All Bombs") on an Islamic State hideout in Afghanistan and by deploying the USS Carl Vinson carrier strike group (after a brief detour off the coast of Australia) to the Korean Peninsula.

TRUMP: More. I'm gonna get more than that.

Those things alone make Trump's first 100 days a success. People don't go around asking about North Atlantic Treaty Organisation if I'm building a building in Manhattan, right?

Of course, there is much more to do. "If Trump finds himself hoisted on the 100-day test, it is a petard that he erected for himself".

In addition to the energy-related orders, Trump is also expected this week to sign an order to create an office of accountability in the Veterans Affairs department.
