After Game 3 win, Rangers look to tie series against Sens

NY and the Senators are scheduled to meet Saturday afternoon for Game 5 in Ottawa before they return to Manhattan for Game 6 on Tuesday. "Any time a game is 4-1", NY defenceman Brendan Smith had said on the off day, "normally you get a kick in the butt and you respond - so we're going to expect them to bring a hell of an effort".
In the first round last month against Montreal, the Rangers trailed 2-1 before also winning three in a row to advance to this round.
Each of Ottawa's first eight games during these playoffs was decided by one goal and now they've been filled in for two straight.
NY evened its series with the Ottawa Senators at two games apiece with a 4-1 victory in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden.
Senators star defenseman Erik Karlsson also left the game after the second period with an injury. Tanner Glass recorded two assists, and the triumvirate of Kevin Hayes, J.T. Miller and Michael Grabner each had a helper.
The Penguins blocked 18 shots a game on the way to the championship last season and are averaging 19.3 so far in these playoffs.
The Ottawa Senators vowed that this game they would be "relentless".
During the second period, the Rangers struck 19 shots and scored two more goals - Oscar Lindberg scored twice and actually killed the intrigue in the fourth match of the series.
Things were a little more even in the second period, but when Rick Nash added a third goal at the 12:21 mark, a Rangers victory seemed inevitable.

Lundqvist, who leads all goalies with 289 saves in the playoffs, made a nice stick save in the opening minute of the second on Pageau, and both goalies made some nice stops through the middle of the period to keep the score 2-0. "We got a slap in the face and we've got to get up". I still trust Anderson a lot more, but Condon was good enough in the regular season that it might be worth considering. The Sens had put in a poor performance, while NY had taken fewer penalties, battled well for position and the puck, and got some luck too (finally). "It's not something that you try to go out and search for".
All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry of the Toronto Raptors missed practice Thursday because of his sprained left ankle, and the team says more tests are scheduled to determine the severity of the injury. "Frustration was probably a big part of it". "He is going to go out there, work his hardest, finish his checks, get to the net, and he created some offense tonight". "We need a better forecheck, a better neutral-zone forecheck, better D-zone, better decisions with the puck".
The Senators were outshot 15-5 in the first period and never recovered. It helps explain how they amassed 102 points while routinely ending up on the wrong end of the possession game.
Turris scored at 13:34, but the Senators had trouble generating sustained pressure against Lundqvist and were sloppy at times. The Rangers rode that momentum gained from the first goal, and eventually translated it into a 2-0 lead.
The deficit after one period was 1-0.
The Rangers should have the same lineup out there in game four, which is okay if Alain Vigneault deploys the third pairing the way he did on Tuesday night.
Defenseman Nick Holden opened the scoring late in the first period, his first goal of the playoffs. Ottawa Senators coach Guy Boucher said his team should block 22 to 25 every game and called the 11 blocks in Game 3 against the New York Rangers "not even close to our standards".
