Durant scores 38 points, Warriors beat Jazz to take 3-0 lead
May 08 2017 by Kelly Saunders
The problem is this game was a flawless example of just how hard to take a game off the Warriors let alone a series.
When the Warriors brought in Kevin Durant, it was for games just like this. Here are some trends to watch from Game 2 that will impact the Warriors' chances of winning their first road game of the second round.
Durant went down with injury and Steph Curry, once again, came to the rescue for the Warriors. Nevertheless, it still wasn't almost enough as Golden State's onslaught of talent left the Jazz reeling and desperate for answers.
That's why most people were outraged at his decision to join the league's best team last season. They did it despite perfectly strong defense from the Warriors, an accomplishment in itself. Over the last quarter and a half, the Dubs showed that they were the best defensive team in the National Basketball Association. You just go forward and play the game.
With the series shifting locations, will the Golden State Warriors continue to dominate the Utah Jazz when they meet in Game 3 at 8:30PM ET? The Warriors sweep the series and move on to round three. Another fast start for the Warriors, or even just a hot streak at some point in the game, will be enough.
Despite going up against one of the top defensive teams in the league, the Warriors have still executed well on the offensive end through the first two games of the series. With Warriors superstar Kevin Durant and Jazz's very own Rudy Gobert back at full health, the Game 2 of has ultimately swayed in the favor of the Golden State.
Utah stayed in the game for much of the evening, unlike the first two matches with Golden State.
The Jazz continued the good defense in the fourth.
The Warriors outscored the Jazz 30-21 in the fourth quarter, with the Jazz never leading by more than a point. "I made a few shots there".
"It's definitely encouraging", he said after his team's loss on Saturday night.
Utah will need Hayward to have another brilliant showing in Game 3 to win on their home floor.
While Durant was impressive, Gordon Hayward also had a huge night.
How do you beat the Golden State Warriors?
The Jazz haven't mailed in a single game in this series, but have lost by an average of 11 points.
Golden State is in a similar position this season. Golden State has struggled with turnovers historically, and protecting the ball tonight was one of the main keys to success for Golden State. Snyder has increased the win total each year from 38 to 40 and now 51.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson shot 7-for-29, including 3-for-15 from deep. JaVale McGee - only good for bloopers - delivered crucial crunch-time minutes, and finished the game +17 in 12 minutes. Golden State has yet to lose in the playoffs. If the Jazz put a smaller defender on Durant, he backed them down and shot over him.
The Jazz can start making vacation plans. Warriors F Andre Iguodala played in his 100th career playoff game. Draymond Green - just an overhyped loudmouth - was once again everywhere important in the fourth quarter, contesting shots, deflecting passes, ripping down rebounds and finding high-percentage looks. He's not looking at it from a fan perspective, he's looking objectively, pleased with how the Jazz played, considering what he has available.
Durant did a little bit of everything through four quarters. Joe Johnson is the third double-digit scorer and Rudy Gobert is grabbing 9.5 rebounds.
His contributions provided added value with starting point guard George Hill sidelined because of a sore toe.
With the season on the brink, look for the Jazz to leave everything on the court in Game Four.
Everybody knows that Golden State loves to run and gun. The Jazz cut the deficit to a basket after Hayward buried three free throws to make it 86-84.
